My husband and I were looking for home care for his grandmother back in late 2001 and had a really hard time finding great quality care that were really compassionate and kind of cared about grandma first.

And

We regrettably lost her to cancer the day before we got married in early 2002, and it really got us thinking about how hard it was for us to find great home care.

Neither of us came from a health care background, but we had a strong consumer experience, and we felt very passionate to make a difference and make sure families didn't have to go through what we went through

and really set out to really transform that home care experience and launched our very first company-owned location in October of 2002.

I think it's critical, and I think if you're married or have a partner, I think it's absolutely your core unit at home being on the same page with how many hours it will take, the

money it will take up front to build something for the future, that everything else kind of will be second fiddle for a while while you're trying to launch a new business.

But I think it extends, at least for me, beyond that, is really trying to be diligent about having everyone that you surround yourself with be very positive and upbeat, be energy givers, not energy takers.

Because starting a business is hard, and

you're going to have days where you're like, wow, why did I do this?

I didn't realize it would be so hard.

And you want to have people at that right time that are going to encourage you to see it through, not go, well, why did you leave your corporate job?
