Over the next nine years, he mentored high school teenagers from all walks of life, which gave him a profound hands-on masterclass in human behavior, even if he didn't realize it at the time.
In 2010, he and his wife Kelly got a chocolate lab puppy named Lambo and joined a search and rescue team.
While that early introduction relied on traditional training methods, his involvement with the search and rescue community inspired him to pursue a degree in emergency management.
When they moved to Indianapolis, he joined a reinforcement-based team, which helped guide his experience and journey towards search and rescue certifications from both the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and NASAR.
Because of the freedom and bond that these training methods created, he found a new love for dog training.
That experience led to two years of intensive clicker training for a local service dog company.
He was then hired by Uptown Pup, a local dog care facility that lacked a training program at the time, to build their training department from scratch.
After seven years in that role, he launched Leap Canine Coaching in 2025.
Today, he is a Karim Pryor Academy certified training partner, a certified fear-free trainer, and has completed Michael Shikashio's Aggression in Dogs Master Course.
Since Lambo's passing in 2021 and the birth of his daughter in 2023, he has stepped out of SAR, but his core passion remains in helping others and dogs reach the full potential of their mutual understanding and bond.
For him, fostering that deep connection is always the priority, which naturally makes behavior modification secondary and far easier to achieve.
He now resides in Speedway, Indiana with his wife, Kelly.
