And I thought, okay, this is going to work.

Keep going, keep going.

And yet...

Still at 14, 15, my wife and I could not do anything right.

I do a lot of things for charities because I genuinely care and have the luxury of being able to do it because I'm not just living desperately hand to mouth month to month like a lot of artists are and like I once did.

My older daughter said to me,

you don't really care about those things.

You're just a narcissist who wants credit.

And you realize, oh, they are gonna do anything to push you away at that point.

Luckily now, our girls are 17 and 20 and they've sort of

gone through that phase and our older daughter who said, I would never do anything with art, design, anything like that.

She now is doing graphic design and photography and crushing it.

and asking me for advice, and I'm very delicate about, like, oh, well, I don't know what your vision is, but if this were my project, I might do it like this.

But it took me a long time to...

realize that they have to have that freedom to then feel like you're not pushing them one way or another and to come to you for help rather than feeling like you're forcing it upon them.

And that's hard for me because

I looked at all of my struggles and thought, oh, if I could help somebody avoid these pitfalls.

But my parents did the same thing and I thought they were idiots.

And then later I was like, oh shit, I made all these mistakes.

And their advice was pretty right on.
