You know, this is quite a mercantilist administration.
Um, and that is both a uh a a complement and and and of course a um a challenge for the rest of the world.
Um but I think stable coins and the Genius Act are
Uh an inherent part of all of that.
Yes, although I I I don't I I think w it's important to say that that is a function of
how stable coins would operate.
What you wouldn't want is stable coins backed by long dated debt, where relatively small moves in yields can change the value to power of those assets quite considerably.
You want it to be fiat currencies or short dated debt in order to make those moves more manageable.
Because of course
stablecoins have been around for quite some time and one of the
problems with their pegs to to an underlying valuation.
has been the big interest rate moves that we saw in twenty twenty one-2022, which put a loss of a lot of stress on those pegs.
And of course the shorter duration the assets, the less disruptive that is, and the less chance of lack of market confidence, dislocation.
I don't think it's a conscious decision from governments to say, actually we want to
Um
issue more sure more short duration debt.
Quite the opposite.
I think governments would love to lock away um their their their their liabilities on multi decade low interest rates.
I just don't think the setup of
um particularly institutional pension funds at the moment, is going to see quite that level of demand that we've become familiar and perhaps a little bit um comfortable with over recent decades.
