All of these boring things that create an industry are not there.

So this is why and how I think about markets.

You can bring this up a level and then use this to think about states.

And this is what I've done with Ireland.

I've basically said, Ireland has loads of money, yet we lack the basic infrastructure that creates a state.

And it's those really boring things that never make the headlines.

procedures, mechanism, protocols, policies.

Again, in the security, I work in security and defense a lot.

I recently did an audit of Ireland's security mechanisms.

A basic state has around 45.

Ireland only has two of those right now.

So we are missing the basic infrastructure that creates a state.

And the difference between, I guess, the wealth that we have and the infrastructure and the architecture of a state that we have is what I call this gap.

But this is Ireland as a premature state.

The question that follows this is, why?

Why is Ireland lacking this basic stuff that everyone else has in terms of government capacity?

And a lot of that gets back into where we as a country have come from.

And that, to me, is the worrying part, because when you understand where we've come from and what we're lacking today, then you think, OK, where does this naturally take us?
