And while all this was going on with Ruan, there was a lot of traumatic things going on in the rooms beside us.

other children suffering and needing support and really like intensive care.
Literally, that's what it is.
And other mothers walking around.
And I remember feeling sorry for other mothers and then going, oh, hang on a second.
I'm one of these mothers.
They put him into a bigger bed so that I could get in beside him.
And one of the vital signs that they had been seeing was he was opening his eyes and we were taking this as coming back to life but it turned out it wasn't, it was seizures.
So the seizures were getting worse and worse.
The seizures happened because of the brain, the lack of oxygen so the brain is trying and they said normally after three days they would burn out.
They started on the lowest dose of
mild seizure medication, but by the end they were on the highest dose of the highest, the strongest seizure medication and they couldn't manage them.
They'd been hiding this from me, which was a kindness, but it also meant I still believed that the eyes opening was, was him coming back and it wasn't.
In the middle of the night that night, I woke up and I was just lying beside him and he had a seizure.
And because the nurses were busy with other things, they didn't run in and get the seizure medication into him.
So I watched this seizure happen.
And then I realized it's cruel to keep him, that it was becoming cruel.
