Inevitably, he's hoping that that, a clearer sense of direction, something of a move to the left, quote-unquote, and certainly the party being led by somebody who is not a brilliant communicator, but is certainly a better communicator than Keir Starmer, that that will provide the ingredients for Labour to recover the very dire position that it's still in, in the opinion polls.
Yes, I mean, the crucial bit of that, I think, is the charm of the northern.
I think the crucial point in one of the ways in which Andy Burnham is a better communicator is that he talks to people.
He doesn't talk at people.
He talks with people.
He can converse with ordinary voters in everyday language.
And so he's a politician of the one to one, the small group.
He's not a big speech maker, a big rhetorician.
That's not his strength.
But I think certainly using that charm, the smile and the apparent engagement with people is what he's hoping is going to improve his ability to communicate.
But yes, and again, it was one of the things that was very clear in his speech, which he checked.
Yes, yes, and yes, of course, I've been promoting the North, but I'm now going to be promoting the whole of the United Kingdom.
Of course, whether he can do that, and of course, he's laid out for himself this attempt to try and ensure that there is economic growth throughout and across the UK in the particular areas, the so-called areas that have been left behind, many of which voted for Brexit back in 2016.
He's hoping in particular to turn things around.
What, of course, we're still looking for is what is Andy Burnham's plan for turning around an economy which is still struggling to achieve the levels of economic growth we enjoyed before the financial crash of 2008-9.
