And I won the first one.
I came second on the second one.
I won the third one.
And suddenly people knew who I was.
And I knew things had changed because I went to Leicester.
and I was walking across the street with my manager at the time, and a black bus driver stopped the bus in the middle of the street with all the passengers on, opened his window and went, Lenny Henry!
And I thought, ooh, that's different.
And that was when I knew that this was real.
And did you handle it well from the beginning?
No.
Of course not.
I was 16.
Well, how did you handle it?
I gave my money to my mum.
Well, that's handling it well.
I went clubbing a lot.
And I was real.
I loved it because suddenly I had money.
I could pay my way into clubs.
What was hilarious was after spending most of my early teens borrowing money off my friends to get into clubs, now they just let you in for nothing.
