Of Lazarus from the dead as public a spectacle as possible.
It's not an overstatement to say that it's really the climax of John's gospel, at least the climax of Jesus' public ministry in John's gospel.
It was big, it was spectacular, it was provocative.
Everyone knew about what had happened, that Jesus had raised someone from the dead.
Even Jesus' enemies knew that this was a big deal because immediately after the raising of Lazarus, that's whether.
And they decided we gotta stop this guy.
We gotta kill him.
And they conspired to arrest him.
So it's really sort of the drop the mic moment in Jesus' public ministry.
It's it's just massive.
So what struck me about it though is why was Lazarus' resurrection?
meant to be this big public spectacle
When Jesus' resurrection, which obviously happens at the end of John's gospel, is not.
It's actually a really quiet, private, subtle event.
It isn't for the crowds, it isn't for all of Jerusalem to see.
It isn't for all of his enemies to marvel at.
It's a handful of his closest companions who get to experience this.
Why the difference?
So that's what kind of led me into this journey into studying John 11.
