Last year, Italy became one of the first countries in the world to officially recognise obesity as a disease.
And yet, when we asked the local government here if it had a budget to fund education programmes, it said there were too many other priorities in healthcare and elsewhere.
Some believe weight loss drugs are the answer, but they're expensive and the long-term side effects are still unclear.
And some people could end up injecting themselves or taking pills for decades.
Changes are happening in education and treatment, so I hope that if I come back in the future to talk to the seven and eight-year-olds I met at the primary school, they'll be healthy and happy.
After all, a lot depends on it.
