And in that framing, yeah, then winning is doing as best as you can, given a difficult situation.

I think one of the forces that led to that outcome was the fact that governments wanted to undercut their trading partners, right?

Maybe it matters less that you've got a tariff going into America than you've got a slightly lower tariff.

And that was the prize that governments were going for.

I think there's also another factor, which is that the US is an important provider of national security around the world, right?

And you could argue that that's less and less the case.

But there are many countries with very close security relationships with the US and they didn't want to risk blowing that up over a trade dispute.

Ultimately, that was more important.

So I think that was another factor.

But then also, I think you mentioned China in there.

I think really what's going on is outside the US.

The EU in particular is increasingly waking up to the fact that actually it's got a problem with China.
