Yeah, so I think it's good to focus on a simple example to illustrate the principles.
Imagine that your friend writes a play and invites you to see it.
And afterwards, they come up to you and say, what did you think?
And you can tell.
They just want you to say nice things about it.
They want you to say that you really loved it.
But the fact is you absolutely hate it.
You can't even think of a single good thing to say about it.
It's so bad from your perspective.
Now, what do you do?
And I think most people are going to feel conflicted in this situation.
On the one hand, they want to be truthful.
Most people have a value of being truthful, not spreading lies.
And let's assume that it's not better for your friend to hear their place sucked.
Let's assume that they're just going to feel bad.
There's no benefit.
It's going to accrue.
But on the other side of the ledger, you don't want to cause your friend pain, emotional pain.
