I had no intention to go back and play for New Zealand.

I felt I'd done everything I could at that time.

And I needed to get my body right.

I needed to get it right for the Warriors.

And if I continued playing rep footy, I wouldn't have been able to do that.

Yeah, it was two years that I stopped, and then Brian McLennan became the coach, and Brian rang me up and said, Stace, I'd really like you to reconsider coming out of retirement and playing for the Kiwis.

And I thought, I'm done.

I made my decision, and I'm comfortable with it.

He's like, yep, okay, no worries, Stace.

And then a week later, he brings me up again.

I'm like, Louie, no.

He keeps ringing me, keeps ringing me.

I said, flipping hell, how am I going to get this guy off my case?

And then I thought about it, and my body was feeling good.

And he said, look, Stace, can you just play these two games?

Because we don't have an out-and-out halfback, just for two games.

And then Ruben

rang me and Nigel Vagana was on to me.

So these players were saying, look, can you just play these two games, one in Australia, one in New Zealand, because then they were going to the UK.

And I was moving to France.
