And I feel like, especially during the pandemic, you know, we're all dealing with so much that it can be important to do what Machiavelli did and kind of step back and say, well, where is this coming from?

This person might be really stressed.

They might be juggling a million things I don't know about.

They might be worried about family or friends or the news.

So that was actually a very sort of humane piece of advice for Machiavelli.

Oh, yeah.

The workplace isn't easy for anyone.

You know, I feel like there's this idea of like, oh, if you're a white man, everything gets handed to you.

I don't think that's the case at all.

And I think that is not a useful place to start this conversation.

I think the workplace is hard for everyone.

You know, we all have to you know, we're all here because we're trying to pay our bills and we're also trying to get some some satisfaction out of our jobs and find some meaning in our jobs.

Most of us.

And I think it can be a difficult thing.

It's work can be very emotional.

It can be very fraught.

There's a lot happening.

I mean, work is a large part of kind of how we define ourselves often.

especially in the U.S.

So I think it's important to remember that, you know, negotiating isn't easy.
