So you lend the US government money for 10 years.

At the end, you get your money back plus a little bit of money.

That's called the yield.

And the U.S.

government for years and years has basically had to pay almost no interest on a loan.

And in spite of that, in spite of the fact it pays almost no interest, people are lining up, falling all over each other to lend the U.S.

money because it is so safe.

It is often called the riskless asset because countries and big investors, they want a safe place to put money.
