Sean Duffy, newly appointed transportation secretary.
You might remember him from Fox Business or reality TV.
He's got a new job and he signed a memo that said federal policies and programs must rely on rigorous analysis and cost benefit calculations that benefit the American people.
We're talking about money that would go to like buses and commuter trains.
This sounds like a good idea, totally legit.
but something caught my eye in the memo it says that preference should be given and i want to get this right to communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average now that seems pretty unusual when you're figuring out where to send transit dollars it means states like south dakota that has the highest birth rate and utah the highest marriage rate could get
Higher priority over places with like bigger cities and bigger populations.
And I'm not the only one who noticed.
The Massachusetts governor said it's concerning that they would be connecting transportation dollars to something like birth rates or marriage rates.
I mean, Sean Duffy's own home state of Wisconsin, they could face issues with the funding they get for roads.
So when you start to hear lawmakers say this is concerning, I think that's something you should know.
