But when policymakers meet Tuesday and Wednesday, they are expected to keep rates steady.

May's solid existing home sales could be a sign the housing market is starting to shake off the slump it's been in since mortgage rates shot up four years ago.
First-time buyers made up 35% of existing home sales, but the increase was not evenly spread.
The Northeast still has a lack of available homes to buy, and sales there were down 8% from a year earlier.
More expensive homes also saw the biggest jump.
Sales for million-dollar homes and above were up 11 percent.
And there are mixed signals in the housing market.
Redfin reported new home listings and mortgage purchase applications fell in late May as the war with Iran and renewed inflation concerns pushed mortgage rates up.

It was expected to be a strong home buying season.
Average interest rates for a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped below 6% in February, the first time in three and a half years.
But the war against Iran increased the cost of borrowing, and this week the mortgage rate is about 6.5%.
Real estate business Zillow says sales in May were below where they were a year ago, nearly 3 percent, and housing recovery is back on pause.
