And there's been this massive infrastructure investment.

in hospitals.

Many of the newer public hospitals now have single rooms and so you get the same level of amenity in the public hospitals you used to only get in the private hospital.

The whole health system is facing a quite a different future in the next twenty years from now.

What we've seen over the last twenty years is a massive shift from inpatient accommodation to same day treatment.

Now more than half of the hospital admissions, both in public and the private sector, are same day.

So in the future it's going to be even more is able to be done at home, even more is able to be done on a same day basis.

And so this will really have a challenge for

the private hospital system, as for the whole public hospital system as well.

Out of pocket costs have always been an irritant because people in the past were fully covered.

Basically everybody had top cover.

Now that's not the case.

And they don't realize

All of the out-of-pocket costs they face.

And so they they have often signed up to say, look, I'm going to pay the first 500 or I'm going to pay the first thousand.

And they know that.

But then they suddenly get bills from the doctor before they go into hospital, which are quite large.

They get bills from doctors they're never seen when they get into hospital, the pathologist, the radiologist, the anesitist, they suddenly end up with massive bills that they had not anticipated and are not covered by their private health insurance.

Arrangements.

The government has announced a whole series of private health insurance reforms, which I don't think are going to have much of an impact, but they're trying to actually standardize the products so people know what their coverage is, but sometimes they're standardizing it in quite peculiar ways.
