At one point I say in my book too, with those two analysts, the women who are the one who goes off with the other's husband, we were all colleagues.
And at one point I say, one of them says to me, what are you looking for in a wife?
I was unmarried when I was friends with them.
And I say, I'm looking for a woman who will be good in a divorce.
And they think this is very funny.
And I said, I'm not joking.
I'm looking for someone who, when everything is terrible, will be good, who will be kind and fair.
And I still believe that when I meet people who are looking for partners, I think, how's this person going to be in the divorce?
Is he going to be generous and fair and kind?
Or is he going to be awful?
And that'll give you a clue about whether you should get together or not.
I sometimes think we don't see that happiness is just quite simple.
It is there in little moments.
It is that sweetness, the pleasure, the deep pleasure of desiring exactly what you have and how wonderful that is, and to be aware and to look for that each day.
