What gave you the confidence or how did you know that you could do this at 29?
That gets you quite a few drinks at the Outback Bar on a Saturday night.
I mean, that truly would be the definition of finding love in a hopeless place.
I think I can say that.
I went there when I was a student.
Now, one question I've got to ask you, Sam, is that there are a lot of people who would start businesses, be successful in them, but then...
they have lifestyle inflation.
They start spending more because they're earning more, right?
So there are not many people who, even if they have a successful business, would be able to retire relatively quickly because they start spending more or they think, oh, I'm just going to invest even more in the business where I want to grow a bigger business.
And then realize that you sometimes make less money from building a bigger business.
So how did you keep all of those natural inclinations in check around?
Actually, I don't want to spend 150 grand a year.
I want to spend a million dollars a year.
Three hours in an economy seat, all good.
But if you're going through Dubai to the other side of the world and you only go over once every two years, I can totally understand that you want a nice seat because if you're flying in a nicer seat, the holiday starts when you get to the airport as opposed to when you land and then you're tired and grumpy and all of that.
Spoken like someone without kids.
So...
And I know as well that when you retired, you quickly found out that retirement's not all that it cracked up to be.
Talk to us about that.
It's so funny.
