There's people, there's land crossings as well.
Well, first of all, Ceuta is one of two Spanish enclaves in North Africa, surrounded by Morocco on one side and the Mediterranean on the other.
They've been Spanish territory for many centuries.
Legally, they're as much a part of Spain as the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands, a majority of Spanish population.
But because it's technically EU territory, even though it's not in the Schengen zone, which allows for free passport control, it's sometimes been a target for migrants and others trying to get into Europe.
But what appears to have happened
was the Moroccan regime who was upset at Spain's warming relations with Algeria, their traditional geopolitical rival.
Prime Minister Sanchez had just returned from a meeting with the Algerian president.
They're seeking Algerian natural gas.
Obviously, natural gas is in short supply in Europe thanks to the wars in Ukraine and Iran.
And this was sort of a way of punishing him, quite frankly.
And they've done this before.
There was a similar break.
It's a smaller scale, more like 10,000 people that Morocco punished.
enabled to rush in to one of the Presidios in response to Spain accepting the president of Western Sahara, a country that Morocco also claims for itself, into Spain for medical treatment.
So the Moroccans for some time have been using this threat of mass migration as a way of getting some political leverage.
And there's a fair amount of evidence as to exactly what happened.
I mean, you don't get 50,000 to 70,000 people in this remote corner of Morocco simultaneously without some major logistical support.
