Nick Reiner is next due in court for arraignment and entering a plea on February 23rd.
For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman at the County Courthouse in Los Angeles.
He made his first court appearance on December 17th.
Today, Nick Reiner is expected to enter a plea.
Reiner is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of death.
The case has received enormous publicity, but defense attorney Alan Jackson has asked that the process be allowed to run its course.
Nick Reiner has dealt with substance issues for many years.
His attorney has not indicated whether or not he will use an insanity or diminished capacity defense.

Number one Indiana easily beat Alabama 38-3 in the Rose Bowl to advance to the semifinal round.
Indiana will next play Oregon, which had no trouble with Texas A&M, Oregon winning 23-0.
Oregon and Indiana played earlier this season, Indiana winning 30-20.
The most thrilling quarterfinal game saw Mississippi kicking a field goal in the final seconds to beat Georgia 39-34.
Next up for Ole Miss is Miami, which beat defending champion Ohio State.
The semifinals take place next Thursday and Friday.
The championship game is on January 19th.
