I think he tried to ball up some toilet rolls.
You just try and mitigate somehow the reality that you're putting your hand into hundreds of people's piss.

Is it an occupational hazard for the glasses wearing?
I've dropped my phone... I've got 20-20 vision, so I wouldn't know.
