Dear friends in franchising that you mentioned, happy birthdays.
Quite an honorable group of people you mentioned.
So I actually got involved in my early 20s, which would have been the early 80s, in the retail mailbox rental business and developed about 400 independent mail and parcel centers until about the time that I found franchising and fundamentally
What had happened is I didn't know or understand what franchising was, but we were developing these independent businesses.
And then when the Gulf War came in the early 90s, there were a lot of concerns about our ability to continue.
We didn't have a trademark.
We didn't have a royalty.
And just interestingly enough for our listeners, I attended a conference put on by Phil Zeidman and Brett Lowell in Beverly Hills called Franchisings.
And I just got bit by the franchising bug and came back to our small business, I will call it, and made the decision to franchise and actually put our FDD in place, identified, created the trademark PostNet, and then began franchising in July of 1993.
And of course, from 1993,
until I left the business, which was in April of 17.
We developed over 660 locations in multiple countries throughout the world, the largest master franchisee being in southern Africa with nearly 350 locations.
And it was just a great experience and a great journey for me.
