And you don't find it at all in some of those societies, right?

Some sex differences aren't found.

We are very varied as a species, culturally, right?

It's amazing.

Yeah, it does give me pause that mate preferences aren't found as consistently among hunter-gatherers.

Definitely does give me pause.

The reason I don't just automatically just say, well, then it didn't evolve the way evolutionary psychologists have said, is that even though you do more consistently find them in non-hunter-gatherer societies,

you do find them very consistently in those societies, which I think would be surprising if there was no innate push.

So I'm not exactly sure how to square the circle there.

And it does give me some degree of pause, but yeah, I do think there's something there.

And also, you know, there are other lines of evidence that do find it in...

more traditional societies that do find sex differences and mate preferences, maybe not in sort of self-report contexts, but if you look at folk tales and fairy stories from right across the world, different world regions, you do find very consistently

that people put more importance on women's appearance than they do on men's, and more importance on men's resources and status than they do on women's.

So a lot of it does depend on the kind of data that you look at.

Yes, I think that they do.

And I don't think they put huge amounts of weight on the parents, even though they're evaluating women rather than... Yeah, that makes sense to me.
