In Southeast Cameroon, an indigenous peoples are relegated to living on the side of roads as logging concessions, national parks, and trophy hunting now occupy their ancestral land.
Traditionally, the Baca have seen the forest as a place of joy and abundance, but a history of violence in the name of conservation.
Continues to haunt and unfold within a community our next guest has documented, photographed, and written about extensively.
In her article, Violence and Enclosures in the Forest of Southeast Cameroon, a visual essay, Zara Mulou examined the effects of violence and its relationships with the enclosure of forests by conservation entities, trophy hunting outfits,
and logging.
Zara Moulou is an investigative journalist, documentary filmmaker, and researcher from Kenya, currently based in Montreal,
Her work focuses on extractive industries, land rights, conservation, and security.
Zara has worked as a reporter and documentary producer for the New Humanitarian, covered stories in Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, and Palestine.
Zara's work has been featured in Al Jazeera, BBC, CBC, CCTV's Faces of Africa.
and Jacobin.
Zara is a board member of Global Justice Ecology Project.

What what brings you here today and thank you for being here is is your work on Cameroon and the Baca people.
Could you just give us a a a a brief overview of of what you're doing there?
Well, and you did uh a lot of photography too.
And I was reading a paper of yours, uh Violence and Enclosures in the Forest of Southeast Cameroon, a visual essay in the journal Rethinking Marxism, which is uh published by Rutledge.
Um and you have some fantastic photographs.
Um they really help you see and and and maybe.
Maybe have more of a feeling what's going on there.
