Captain Lefevre and I
stayed in one room and the other guys stayed in a thing in a different room and there's no way I could go to sleep.
I was still wired from that whole event.
So we stayed there for two or three hours.
And then I think all of us kind of woke up and just wandered out back into the lobby and sat around and just try to figure out what we're going to do next.
I think there's several stages people go through.
And after the case, we all talked about it.

We were debriefed by the Coast Guard.
We all understand that there are times where we can't save everyone.
And knowing that we did save three people that night was very comforting.
We take this job because we want to save everyone.
And sometimes you just can't.
And that takes some real introspection to make sure that you understand that and that it's a dangerous world.
So we talked about the techniques we used.
We talked about what could we have done differently.
And there's really nothing that I think we could have put in place that would have made the outcome any different.
So I think all of us are comforted by that, but I think all of us also recognize that this is both a Coast Guard success as well as a tragedy.
