And I remember just a few years ago, we were being told that inflation was dead and was never coming back.
Inflation is pernicious.
It's tough on people.
Prices constantly going up.
It's hard.
And also, in this context, we've had three years of post-COVID hangover, and that has been very hard as well.
So I'm not surprised that people are feeling a bit down about it all.
The only good news is that this too will pass, as my late mum used to say, and actually things are stepping up economically, and they would be by now if it hadn't been for a certain US president invading Iran.

Look, it's sort of in a way, because Bill English used to say, well, you know, the toughest budgets are the ones where you've got some money, because everybody wants it.
And by everybody, he means every minister.
It's quite clear that there's no money this time.
There probably won't be money for the next two times.
So it's all about reprioritisation.
