It's like, let's go back, and we should do this every now and then, really define what it is that we're doing.
So I thought I would do for this episode a back to basics about what is scientific skepticism, which is kind of the prevailing philosophy that we are promoting on The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe.
Do any of you want to take a crack at sort of a short, pithy definition of what you think scientific skepticism is?
Oh gosh, that's tough.
Well, because skepticism can be used in a lot of contexts, right?
Which is what we mean by skepticism.
We are skeptics.
We're not like vaccine skeptics or global warming skeptics or whatever.
We're scientific skeptics.
And that term was coined, by the way, or at least promoted.
I don't know if it was actually coined, but it was promoted by Carl Sagan.
Yeah.
to define his own skepticism, right?
Sort of the modern skeptical movement is based upon scientific skepticism.
What do we mean by that?
Yeah, and also philosophical skepticism, which is something else entirely.
That's certainly a component of it, absolutely.
So you could frame it in a number of ways.
