You know, we're in this very strange moment where inflation is obviously elevated.
It's been elevated for many years.
Uh it is uh becoming a credibility problem for the Fed and a credibility problem in markets.
The there are there are plenty of investors uh in the bond market who are wondering whether the Fed is ever gonna take action uh against inflation.
So there's a credibility issue at stake here.
And I think one reason we saw some surprising market reaction right out of
uh the CPI report that this morning, even though we knew it was going to lead to a uh uh Fed rate hike, was at least there is some certainty here.
The bond traders are just like us.
They want to know what's gonna happen next.
They want to feel comforted that somebody actually has uh their hands firmly on the steering wheel.
And so there's something to be said there.
Obviously the the fact that so much of this is coming due to energy is the core of the the argument on the other side.
That's certainly what uh what Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, is making and what uh lots of people in the Trump administration want to make that just like wait this out, don't.
uh overreact, you're gonna uh uh constrain demand across the economy.
But there's no sign that higher interest rates are actually really holding back a uh the economy at large.
Obviously certain sectors will get hit by it.
I think what we're gonna see here is is really just a lot of uh of a debate uh within markets about whether Treasury can accomplish anything in what it's doing.
The the idea of of a Treasury buyback in in such a huge uh market like this, when you've got forty trillion dollars in debt and two trillion dollars in deficits, uh raises a lot of questions.
And the staying power here raises lots of questions as well.
The Fed is obviously the biggest.
