Because there is a paradox here, and Trump's initial interest in Greenland, which dates back to his first term where he first proposed buying the island, drove new commercial attention to Greenland.
But his threats to annex it by force made investors skittish and also made
many Greenlanders wary of American intentions on the island.
One of the things we often hear about Greenland is that there's this wealth of mineral resources in the underground.
And that is true.
But these resources, including rare earths, are very difficult and expensive to extract.
So I think where we'll see the most immediate impact of the deal is probably in other areas where American investors and business people have shown interest.
That could be in tourism, for example, but it could also be around these military.

That will probably benefit Greenlandic subcontractors who can provide catering, cleaning, construction services
