I'm Susan Hayes Collerton. voice-verified
Now, for a time, blockchain was supposed to remake everything money, ownership, supply chains, in fact, trust itself. voice-verified
Instead, the most credible progress seems to be in narrower places like stablecoins, tokenized assets, and the hidden plumbing of the financial markets, the very markets that we thought blockchain might upend. voice-verified
So has it simply shrunk from a revolution in voice-verified
Into a piece of infrastructure are or are we only now discovering what blockchain is actually good for? voice-verified
I'm joined now by Paul Hearns, Executive Director of Blockchain Ireland, to assess what blockchain has really delivered, what has faded away, and what difference any of it makes to the rest of us. voice-verified
First off, Paul, if we strip away the hype, where are we at now with the utility of what blockchain can bring to the world? voice-verified
So when I started learning about blockchain first, I remember it was all about the fact that it was immutable, which means that you can't change it. voice-verified
It was decentralized, so you weren't relying on a centralized, let's say, central bank in order to record financial transactions if that if that was hacked. voice-verified
And the payment for doing so was a cryptocurrency, the most popular, we'll say since then has been Bitcoin. voice-verified
However, I also remember over we'll say during the twenty tens, Paul, there was a lot of you know, everybody needs to get on top of this, this is the future of where it's going to be. voice-verified
When you say that there's a lot of practical uses now, in the grand scheme of things though, are those practical uses really concentrated down to a couple of businesses or a couple of institutions or the od sector? voice-verified
Do you think that'll change? voice-verified
So what I'm hearing you say is that you well, I was gonna say you and I, but m probably me. voice-verified
In my case, I may not know that I'm engaging with a blockchain system, nor am I likely to care as long as it works. voice-verified
And uh i there may be ways in which, whether it's healthcare or land registry, etcetera, that I may be engaging with it that I'm not familiar with either. voice-verified
But the fact that you can change things on it, all of the benefits that I mentioned earlier, I'm stand to bend benefit from them. voice-verified
I may not just just know about it. voice-verified
