And I guess that was all.

And found, in fact, that I didn't like the novels very much at all.

It gave me a talking point.
That is, I trusted those reactions.
I trusted that response.
I knew I felt that the journalism was first-rate, what she did.
Something else, so her powers of observation of life were wonderful.
Something else was happening between her page and me when she went to make fiction.
And I asked myself what it was.
What is distasteful to me here?
What am I not liking?
And what I found was, in figuring that out, a point of view, a talking point for when she came in the studio.
She was saying there's a void at the center of experience, and that's normal.
I felt that's horrible.
