And she was probably very demanding.
She wanted his attention.
And there are times when this was really cruel, but he would lock her in and say, you know, kind of leave me alone.
And so you get that there's a jealousy aspect of it and of Picasso.
And I think that comes to the foreground with her.
There's a really important period in their life, which begins in April or May of 1906 and continues till about April 1907, when one of his dealers offers to buy all of his artwork.
and gives him an enormous amount of money for it.
And enough money so that they could live, pay rent, have food for well over a year without having to sell any of his works.
In other words, without having to create works that he knew would meet the market needs of the time.
And he did this.
He basically stopped working for outside patrons and simply used that as a period of exploration, looking at books and other things.
And so that gets in kind of with the relationship with Fernand.
And the summer of 1906, the two of them go back to Spain.
He's discovering books.
And she no longer becomes his model, because he's taking his models from books.
So that whole model-artist relationship
is really changing.
And I think that's a factor as well.
An artist controls a model, sit, stand, even in the cold, whatever.
And when he's not using models, he's more into his own ideas.
