And they're all quite easy calving.
Have you bred for that?
Is a big part of organic and that philosophy of less inputs, less veterinary as well, less management...
So you need a lot of straw in an organic system to bed them on?
We're still very, very dependent on fossil fuels in farming.
Like, are you seeing your pathway in organic getting out of that?
Yeah, I suppose when I came home, we were conventional sucklers and maybe in my head I was like, beef is still our main business, but I want to diversify and not have all our eggs in one basket and try and decarbonise as much as we can.
So we have put in solar through TAMs.
But as you can see with the prices, you can move towards an alternative if there is a viable alternative.
Fossil fuels, so I'm kind of, I'm very mixed on it.
I think it's made people aware, if they weren't already, how dependent food systems, the whole thing is reliant on fossil fuels.
Like, what was the farmer reaction around here to the fossil fuels package?
Do farmers feel, OK, we protested, I know you weren't part of the protest, but at least something is being given to us
Yeah, I guess any support is welcome, but it's a bit double-edged.
Yes, in the short term, that's going to help and everyone has to make a business work and make ends meet.
It's a fix for now, but it doesn't work towards the long term.
For you, because you're probably following the papers and listening around the place, to fellas talking about going down to go up and the price of fertiliser, is it a relief to be out of that?
I guess I don't really think about it anymore.
And that's not trying to minimise it, but I've gone very ignorant on the price of fertiliser because it's not...
Price of fertiliser, I could say something ridiculous because I haven't bought fertiliser since 2021 and it's changed massively since then.
