This is a year to procrastinate.
There's no reason to shop early this year.
You know, typically there's a bit of a lull between Thanksgiving and Christmas where shoppers take a break and retailers raise prices before dropping them again right before Christmas.
It is significant because a lot of shoppers are going to wait until that last weekend.
It gives them a full weekend to do any last minute gift buying.
And that means that it's going to be a much more back and loaded season this year.
Not so much because the supply chain is back to normal.
We're not seeing that scarcity anymore.
that we saw a few years ago where there just wasn't enough merchandise.
You know, retailers, they're pretty well stocked.
They don't have too much, but they don't have too little either.
Merchants are actually hiring fewer holiday seasonal workers this year than they have in recent years.
In part, that's just because hiring patterns are getting back to a more normal cadence following the pandemic.
But retailers are also planning for a more cautious season.
Well, it's been a tougher year for retailers than the past two or three years where they had the wind at their back because consumers had a lot of money to spend and they needed to refresh their wardrobes.
They were going out more after being stuck at home.
And so there was all this pent-up demand.
Now some of that has subsided and consumers are under a bit more financial pressure.
And so it's been a bit of a tougher year for retailers and they're facing some headwinds this year.
Consumers are having to make choices, right?
