And it's like just more than, you know, a soccer player. It's like everything about that. I mean, she was the first person I stayed with going to college. Yeah.
She's got a lot of stories about me, but you need to hear them. The world needs to know. Yeah. But I just looked up to her so much. I still do. And like we both have two kids now and I still just like look up to her as such an amazing human being. But I would have Cheney. Marta, of course. Of course. I said like Formiga because it's just insane. Should we sign her? Should we sign her?
Yeah, she definitely does. And then I'm choosing Hope Solo.
I mean, I got to see her play and I played against her and I played with her. And yeah, some of the saves that she made were like unbelievable. Yeah. So yeah, she's definitely part of my Mount Rushmore. What's your Mount Rushmore?
I thought you were going to say it's weird because they're our teammates.
Yeah, I do. I love that for us, too.
I looked up to my mom. Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy. I mean, everything that I have and And like gold medals, whatever, anything and everything, especially when it comes to soccer, is because of her. You know, she sent me on my way and I had said, I want to play on the best team in the world. And like, I want to win a World Cup and I want to want to win an Olympics. And I was 14 years old.
And that's what we set off to do. And it was really hard. I really wanted to quit so many times just because it's hard being on your own at that age. Like, I feel like I've been I have been on my own for basically most of my life. But she was like, I promise, I promise you have to trust me. One day it will all be worth it. And then I got into college and I was like, yeah, she's arrived.
Yes. I mean, it's always just been me and her. Yeah. And so we have a very I mean, you know, my relationship with my mother is very, very different. Um, and she is still the person who screams behind the goal for me to score. It's just in different ways. Yeah. Um, yeah. So I look up to her. I still do. You know, she's, she's amazing. And she's why I'm here, why I'm here today. What about you?

Like we've just come so far from being like this tough beast of, you know, a player. And I'm just like so happy and proud that that I get to witness that now being away from from that. But yes, I have this crazy story. I was at Target shopping, as one does. Oh, you were? Yeah, as one does. Weird. You never do that. I love a Target.
And this woman came up to me and she was like, are you Sidney LaRue? And I'm like, yeah, I am. And she was like, my daughter loves you. She's like your biggest fan. And she was like, she's going actually to like the Youth World Cup. And I'm like, wow, that's so amazing. And she's like, can you do a video for her? And I was like, yeah, of course. And I'm like, well, what's her name?
And she's like, her name's Savvy. And so I was like, hi, Savvy. This is Sydney LaRue. I'm so excited for you. I mean, who knows? It was a long time ago, but that was kind of the gist of it. Like, I'm so proud of you. Like, go crush, you know, like I'm going to be cheering for you. I think. Yeah. Yeah. That was like basically it. And now Savvy sits right next to me, the next locker over.
And it's just so crazy that, you know, we do feel like, you know, we're we're towards the end of our career. But to be able to play with people who have looked up to you for so long, like as a as a little girl is something that we never had. I know. And so it's like emotional, you know? It is.
at us at our teammates and they can find somebody who like they see themselves in and like same for you like look at you know when you did the camps and all of these so many asian girls i can't believe it you know and it's like i can't believe it just like have to take a step back and be like wow yeah like this is so much bigger than anything we ever could have imagined
I think they know that they have to. Because I think that even they know with what they get now that they deserve so much more. And so, yeah, I think, you know, the kids are all right. I think I mean, I'm very excited for this new young generation to come through because that's that's what it is now. Yeah, it's the youngins taking over and I'm just so excited for them.
