Moderna has been studying a treatment for the deadly skin cancer melanoma.
It combines Moderna's mRNA-based cancer therapy with Kitruda, an existing drug made by Merck.
The treatment improved outcomes for melanoma patients who have already had surgery to remove their cancer.
The Moderna Therapy is a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine that uses the patient's own tumor cells to train the patient's immune system to fight their cancer.
Moderna says adding the vaccine increased survival time for patients without the cancer returning or spreading to other organs.
That's compared to patients treated with ketruda alone.
The mRNA based therapy has not yet been approved or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
The new results have not yet been peer-reviewed or published in a medical journal.
