I'm Sheila Shoige and welcome to Ready to Be Real Conversations, the podcast series where I chat to people of all walks of life.
Some names you'll recognize, others you might not, but my hope is that these conversations will at times inspire, challenge, educate, comfort, or simply entertain you.
This week I speak to the incredible Zoe Hollihan.
On the twenty third of july twenty eighteen, Zoe and her husband Brian were on their honeymoon in Greece when disaster struck.
Wildfires swept through the seaside town of Mati, where they were staying, and claimed the lives of 102 people.
She miraculously survived despite her extensive injuries, while Brian unfortunately didn't.
In this conversation, we hear how she and Brian met, what a wonderful man he was, their beautiful wedding day.
and how our life changed forever just a few days later on their honeymoon.
She also speaks about her dad and the close friendship they had, and how his death three weeks after that terrible day in Greece was yet another trauma to have to come to terms with.
Her book, As the Smoke Clears, details her life since that day, and it's incredibly powerful.
This was by far one of the most moving conversations I have ever had and I'm in awe of Zoe's courage, strength and resilience.

Zoe, I'm honored that you agreed to have a conversation with me and I suppose I'd love to start by asking you to talk about Brian and the type of man he was.
