We were told at the end of that trial, the prosecutors asked, Judge, is Juliana good to go?
Can she be released?
Judge was like, knock yourself out.
Do what you want with her.
However...
A little detail was missed is that you still have to formalize this process.
A prosecutor can say whatever a prosecutor wants and make whatever deal a prosecutor wants, but the judge is the one who has to officially sign off on it.
This judge, he was not on board.
Wow.
When we found out...
this news, our jaws both dropped because we covered this trial every single day.
And so this was not something we expected, but the judge in this case, yes, she went against the prosecution's recommendation and she gave Julianna Magalhaes the maximum possible sentence for manslaughter, 10 years plus another two years of a suspended sentence.
So
Juliana MagalhΓ£es is not going home to Brazil.
She is staying exactly where she's been since eight months after those murders.
This is a hell of a development in this case.
And Robes, I think as a juror, you might have looked at it a little differently.
If you knew this woman was already going to prison for 10 years and has now shown up to testify.
