Chapter 2: What shocking development occurred in the au pair murder trial?
That's awful. Okay? That's... Just don't say anything. That's terrible. That's not taking responsibility. And there were so many... You had so many opportunities over so much time to stop. So then she also, Juliana, said this to the judge trying to, again, defend herself. I lost myself in a relationship and left my morals and values behind. Did you see the video by Jens? I didn't see the video. I'm curious how this came off. We just weren't able to get this up in front of us. I'm curious how that came off because on paper it comes off terribly. Oh, it comes off terribly.
But listen to what the judge said back to Juliana. Literally, this was a back and forth. So Juliana says, I lost myself in a relationship, judge. I left my morals and values behind, judge. She's trying to get the judge to agree to the sentencing. The judge says this to Juliana.
You were texting and speaking to Joseph Ryan, encouraging him to bring a knife, and ultimately, through the phone conversation, getting his consent, knowing all along you were bringing him to his death. The whole story is awful, but this was a button to this story that, again, I'm never happy in some case like this, but it just didn't feel satisfactory when he was going to prison and the prosecutors were telling us she was going home to Brazil. It just didn't feel right. Some semblance of justice gets closer with this. Yes, agreed.
And so when we come back, we're going to tell you what the victim's families said to Juliana. They were able to actually, Joe Ryan's mom and aunt were actually able to directly speak to her. In Atlanta, Georgia, at Martin's alma mater, Morehouse College, the students had their own protest. It featured two prominent figures in Black history, Martin Luther King Sr. and a young student, Samuel L. Jackson.
