Hey there, folks. It is Saturday, February 14th. And what a development in the so-called au pair affair murder trial. The au pair who made a sweet deal with prosecutors. Well, the judge just ripped up that sweet deal. She is not going free. In fact, she's going to prison for a long time. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Robes. I did not see this one coming. Neither did I. And in fact, we had been, obviously, if you all have been following our feed, you have been following this murder trial. We are talking about Brendan Banfield and his au pair turned lover. We are talking about Juliana Magalhaes. They were both... I mean, he was found guilty, and she admitted guilt to conspiring to kill his wife, Christine.
And in doing so, they lured a man over to the home to pin the murder on him and come out looking like heroes so they could live happily ever after. So, Julianna Moggillies... decides to go ahead and cooperate with the prosecution she testified against brendan banfield which led to a guilty verdict and boom her sentencing hearing she's supposed to get out of jail free now the prosecutors agreed to say hey we will give you your sentence as time served and you'll be on your way back home to brazil if you testify for us Boom! That was the deal. And frankly, you and I and a lot of people had a problem with this case in that it was his word against hers. Her word, she had very much an incentive to lie, to say whatever she wanted so she could get out of jail free.
That was the deal. Deal with the prosecutors, you turn state's witness, testify for us, and we will let you off scot-free with a, she has a manslaughter conviction, but the prosecutor said, cut this deal with you, no jail time. That's what they've been preaching for months and throughout the entire trial. It didn't seem fair. You and I both thought it was pretty awful. And as a juror, I was thinking that might weigh in on their decision as to whether or not they even believed her.
