Actually, especially in Lebanon, because we couldn't go out so much, I was all the time in my room or my father's office drawing and writing stories about this character that I invented.
Who was the character?
It was a little girl with her cat, like saving things in the world or whatever, having these adventures in the world.

Because I like painting, I like drawing, but also it was for her to make sure I was somewhere and not in the street, you know.
She was very artistic and she brought me, when we lived in Paris, she brought me to the Louvre and I was always in museums because of her.

I had no aware of the privilege until I went back to Cuba and I started having friends in my classroom and going to their houses.
But also I remember very distinctively one day when I was 11, they said, OK, do drawings, a garden or whatever.
And I draw blue flowers.
And the teacher was like, this is wrong.
Painted red flowers.
I say, what do you mean?
