So the first reason why I think Pride died is cold, hard commercialism.

And as I say, we've all heard the phrase go woke, go broke.

And Bud Light and Jaguar are often held up as brands which totally misjudge the public mood and backfired really badly for them.

We also know that President Trump is allergic to DEI.

His 2025 executive orders landed pretty hard on law firms and consultancies, particularly who are keen to keep doing business with the US government.

So those firms have listened and learned.

But here I'm talking about something slightly different.

This is part of a bigger trend that I've seen, which is led by the private sector towards much sharper focus on productivity and profit.

The economic landscape is really tough at the moment for all sorts of reasons, and the mood among them has really shifted.

So a few years ago, we saw firms who were happy to fund nice-to-have, feel-good branding and internal events, lots of rainbows and bunting and external speakers.

But now they're really streamlining.

They're cutting costs.

And frankly, they're in a pretty ruthless mood.

So they're cutting jobs everywhere.

They're working out what can be moved abroad more cheaply or replaced with AI.

And there's very little patience left for anything that isn't helping the organization hit its targets.
