Uh is there much that Trump can actually do in terms of uh his rhetoric there? matched

And uh the market. matched

Became a bit more apprehensive, uh, particularly when uh a few comments from the National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett were mentioned on Friday. matched

And I think this was a key thing that really um started to cause a few market jitters, particularly in Asia on Monday, and more particularly in terms of US trading on Monday. matched

So uh Kevin Hassett, he's the National Economic Council Director. matched

Um and if you recall, the person who was in that role prior to matched

Kim was uh former Fed Vice Chair Lal Brainard. matched

Um so uh the person who occupies this position um knows very much about the need for Fed independence. matched

And uh he noted that um that uh the Trump administration was studying whether uh the Trump administration is able to fire the Federal Reserve Chair, and he was also asked about his privy. matched

And he wrote a book called The Drift, uh and in his twenty twenty one book, The Drift, uh he was arguing that firing power during Trump's first term uh would have harmed the reputation of the Fed uh and could have compromised the credibility of the dollar and crashed the stock market. matched

And then he was asked, Well, is this time any different? matched

And he think and he said, I think that at that time the market was in a completely different place. matched

And you know, I was referring to legal analysis that we had back then, and if there's a new legal analysis that says something matched

different, then we would need to rethink our response. matched

So that's got people a little bit more jittery. matched

If someone who's occupying that kind of position is speaking o a along these lines as as as well, then maybe this is a more realistic possibility. matched

It's still only a possibility um that uh Trump could somehow follow through uh on on those words there. matched

I think that's what's got markets more more jittery. matched

Yes, and so uh there's uh a case uh in front of the Supreme Court at at the at the moment which is challenging the constitutionality of similar limits on the President's authority to fire heads of other independent agencies. matched

And I think that's gonna be looked at quite closely in terms of uh what potential implications that could have on the Fed. matched
