And he just flat out lied about the Nazi tattoo stuff.

And I watched his response.

Now, listen, I'm a person that I'm okay with redemption stories when it seems to be legitimate.

But you can tell a lot from a person's disposition, from the way they handle adversity.

And I did not believe that he was legitimately redeemed or sorry.

There was a certain bit of smugness and arrogance that came from him that just didn't make it believable.

And when your senior campaign advisors resign...

Within a week, like his original campaign folks did one couple that came on and then resigned almost immediately around that controversy because of the way he handled it.

That tells you a lot, because when you're a senior campaign staffer, you have a lot of insight and you're around that candidate and you see them when the cameras aren't on.

And I can tell you, especially the women that were on that campaign that said, I'm out.

It was a red flag for me.

It was a red flag.

And his behavior since then has unfortunately reinforced my concern.

The idea that people were just so excited to overcompensate for a regular guy that's going to take on Susan Collins.

He's an oyster farmer and the whole story, even with his background being somewhat bullshit.

You know, he was a prep school kid.

He's not just some regular guy.

There was a lot going on here that people were wish-casting and hoping because he brought something different and they were willing to overlook his really troubling and alarming character flaws and behavior just to be something different that I knew was going to blow up in their faces.

And he lied to a lot of people.
