you know effectively at at the June meeting um from for from Schnabel's perspective that's reasonably well priced by by markets I would add as well. voice-verified
Um and really kind of the key thing there is just kind of seeing enough evidence so far that you know things are tracking worse than than um the the baseline scenario in in March um sorry in the in the previous forecasts and and that is and seeing evidence enough evidence of kind of voice-verified
you know, indirect of effects flowing through in in the data already to need some kind of response. voice-verified
Um and her her point there as well that kind of, you know, some some comfort from from wages data is is too slow moving, um, to you know, if they if they're waiting for a response in wages data then then they'll be too late. voice-verified
So that all of that's feeding into to Schnabel's view. voice-verified
We did have some other comments from from E C B E C B speakers as well. voice-verified
Nothing as explicit in terms of voice-verified
a June hike as is what we heard from from Schnabel, but we did hear from Chief Economist Lane um, you know, noting again the kind of, you know, what the the what we've seen since the previous forecast suggesting that things are are tracking worse than the the baseline and there will be an upper division to to um the the inflation projection voice-verified
Right, and voice-verified
Yeah, so that this is a a a new measure, as you say, kind of the the Japanese inflation data we got to read on that last week. voice-verified
We got the the Tokyo CPI coming up later this week as well. voice-verified
But kind of, you know, the the discussions reading through that, taking the taking those signals has been difficult because at face value the um Japanese inflation looks to be uh tracking reasonably benignly, but there are plenty of kind of government influenced uh policy uh sh and policy voice-verified
Shifts that have been weighing on those price measures. voice-verified
So this measure from the Bank of Japan strips out some of those as well as the the usual um energy and and fuel. voice-verified
And as you say, that kind of that um core, core, core measure of uh of inflation, if you like, is was 2.8%. voice-verified
So running much higher than those um those kind of headline statistics that are being um swung around by those those policy interventions. voice-verified
Yeah. voice-verified
So I think you know that's suggestive, supportive of of that kind of view. voice-verified
that those inflation numbers are uh at face value or the the headline numbers there are a little bit more benign than the real uh underlying inflation impulse. voice-verified
And, you know, one more thing that suggests that the direction of travel for the the Bank of Japan is is up and markets still a bit over 70% priced for for a move in the June meeting. voice-verified
