I mean, let's face it, about 60 percent of credit card holders themselves have credit card debt from month to month.
So, you know, I think maybe with this study, what we're seeing is that parents are embodying the school of hard knocks, so to speak, that they know what it's like to pay 15, 16, 17 percent on a credit card and they want to help their kids avoid that.
It's a great thought.
It's just you can't give too much because then you're going to jeopardize your own financial security and your own retirement.
And then that's a vicious cycle that's not good for anybody.
And hopefully when there's assistance, it's just a one time kind of thing.
We definitely don't want month after month parents to have to help their adult children.
Because that's systematic of really a much larger problem about either living beyond your means or just something else going on with your spending habits.
If it's a one-time thing, if you've gotten into medical debt or student debt or a big car repair or a lost job, I'm thinking more of a one-time event.
I think that's great if parents can help you out, but I think what's really dangerous is this monthly handout kind of mentality because that's just going to drain the parents' finances and it's not going to help that adult child stand on his or her own either.
Gambling debt was by far the biggest taboo in this survey.
And I think that makes sense.
I mean, we saw 57% of parents said, nope, not going to help you with your gambling debt.
Second most on the don't list was credit cards at 16%.
So a really big gap there.
Thanks for having me.
