You've already done that when you were 14, 15, 16 years old.
those skills are actually really transferable.
We just don't think about that.
All those awkward moments when we're kids, we're actually learning quite a bit that when we're 20, 21, 22, we can just kind of bring that stuff back up, use it in the workplace.
You know, when it comes to relationships, honestly, there's only so many ways you can skin a cat.
It's these interpersonal dynamics.
They are what they are.
So if you think about conflict, for example, if someone is trying to avoid an uncomfortable conversation, they'll bait and switch you.
or they'll engage in reverse blame, or they will come up with all kinds of explanations for their behavior that has nothing to do with the actual thing.
They do that at work.
They do that at home.
Your kids will do that to you as parents.
Your parents will do that to you as adult children.
All of these basic interpersonal dynamics are really replicable from situation to situation.
And when we develop the skills to do them when we're young, we actually kind of really develop a strength of tolerance for the uncomfortable.
I think that's really what it is that we can then pull out in the workplace.
So we're less likely to wiggle out of uncomfortable situations and kind of learn how to work through them, even if they aren't exactly the same as the ones in our romantic relationships.
Yeah, I think, too, dating—this is going to sound really weird, but dating involves live, in-real-life interaction versus something that this younger generation does a lot, which is asynchronous communication—texting, slacking, you know, whatever, Instagram messaging—
When you're talking to someone in real life, you have to read their nonverbal behavior.
