The San Jose Sharks made a defensive swap today, acquiring 25-year-old Jet Wu from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Jack Thompson.
Sharks General Manager Mike Greer announced the deal, bringing in a seasoned American Hockey League player to bolster their blue line.
Wu has put up eight points, including one goal and seven assists, over 26 games this season with Abbotsford in the AHL.
He's fifth among his team's defensemen in scoring and second in penalty minutes with 78.
The Winnipeg native stands six feet tall and weighs 205 pounds.
In his full pro career across 293 AHL games, Wu has tallied 91 points.
Last season, he helped Abbotsford win the Calder Cup, chipping in six points during the playoffs with a plus-eight rating.
Earlier in juniors with the Western Hockey League, he racked up 160 points over 242 games.
Meanwhile, the Sharks sent out 23-year-old Jack Thompson, who notched 12 points in 42 games this year for the San Jose Barracuda.
Thompson brings solid experience with 91 points in 203 AHL contests.
