Even if we represent just 5 or 10% of their sales, that's 5 or 10% they won't be able to just replace.
Like what happens in Ohio when Canadians en masse take a pass on whirlpools and Maytags?
I'll tell you what happens.
Layoffs.
But it's not always easy to cut out American brands.
I mean, even if they printed Trump's face on it, you wouldn't catch me squeezing the Charmin, but I still use Tide and Dawn.
I try and make sure all my produce is Canadian, but when you need a lemon and the only option is from the U.S., I'm buying the lemon.
Sometimes there are no good alternatives, but when there are, I'm choosing Canadian.
We didn't ask for any of this, but Canada has been tested before and we've always come out on top and been the better for it.
Nothing will be different this time, but that doesn't mean it won't hurt.
There will be pain, massive disruption and loss.
There will be times where we question our resolve, but capitulation to a clown like Trump?
It's never going to happen.
You don't have to dig deep to find an immigration element to many of the major issues in this country.
From affordable housing to accessible health care to social programs, unemployment, education and more.
It's a hot topic creating backlash, not only here, but right around the world.
And I'm not just talking about Trump's America.
It's England, Germany, France, even New Zealand of all places.
So it should come as no surprise that we're wrestling with some of the same anti-immigration sentiments here too.
